Treating Your Anxious Child
At The Kid's Dentist, our staff members and dentists have received additional training to care for your child of any age– infants through adolescents. We enjoy working with children and are able to cater to their special needs. The train station theme of our office was specifically designed with young people in mind.
Nitrous Oxide Sedation
If your child feels anxious before or during dental treatmenta, we are able to administer nitrous oxide as a sedative agent to calm your child’s fears. It also works well if your child has a gag reflex that interferes with dental treatment.
Nitrous oxide is given through a breathing nose. Your child will remain alert, awake, and will be able to talk to the dentist and staff during treatment. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recognizes nitrous oxide sedation as a safe and effective method for calming fears and enhancing communication.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation is a technique we sometimes use to guide your child's behavior during dental treatments. We may recommend oral conscious sedation if your child is very fearful or is so young that they have trouble sitting still and following directions.
The safety and comfort of your child are the primary reasons that we use oral conscious sedation. Rest assured, our dentists follow the guidelines set forth by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
